Flutes or any musical instrument are not prohibited in Islam. The only part that most scholars, perhaps interpret from one side is in Qur’an 31:6: “And of the people he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead (others) from the way of Allah without knowledge and who takes it in ridicule.”

Some Hadith about Flute
(Qur’an 23:3)— “And they who turn away from ill speech.” Plus Qur’an 17:64- “And incite (to senselessness) whoever you can among them with your voice”. These respective references did not say emphatically that music, generally, is haram. What they all denote is that the music produced is good, then a believer has not sinned, except it’s repugnant.
There is a place specifically that prohibits the playing or hearing of music in the Holy Qur’an, instead, it states that it’s a sinful act when music is utilized with unruly acts, which are all stated explicitly in the hadit. Acts such as fornication, adultery, playing it with just two different sexes, etc.
Hadiths that glaring obligated the playing of a flute is not authentic, because there’s no place in the authentic ones that. People in Suadi Arabia stated this to rely on permissible music. In Abdullah’s biography, he has some female slaves that played flute, Ibn Umah then entered and asked what it was, “it is used to balance the mind”, he retorted.

Music and entertainment, generally, are used as a tool to cool the mind and relief pain and stress, because it is the prophet (may him be in peace) alone that can persevere in stressful times. Against weariness is music meant for, it is like a medical capsule, it must be abused, too much will lead to somewhere not good.
It should be only meant to create a strong connection with believers and God, while it can also serve as a means of pleasure, any other motifs asides these are considered haram. Plus, it can be used to give one’s heart peace.
In a nutshell, a flute is not haram, rather is any musical instrument haram, that bad or immoral activities accompanied by it are what become sin. It is an instrument for melding the heart and having pleasures.
