Can Guitars Have Four Strings? Tenor guitars which were early made had four strings. Recent producers like Banco, Lyon, and Healy, and banjo makers may replicate this. TL-4 Tenor lite model produced by Gibson in the 1920s was said to be four strings.
In the 1930s again, Gibson began to frite 4 strings guitar which was called ES-150. It happened to be a tenor guitars that had a 23-inches scale. It had an upgraded version and models, afterward, while it was also rebranded.
Bass Guitars are just four-stringed, nothing else than the fact that that is all you need as a player. The single and low notes played are just to aid the low-end of a band. With a four-stringed bass guitar, you have room for just three octaves.

The Four Strings Guitar Tuning System
These models had two different ways of tuning: the DGBE Chicago tuning and the GDAE Octave mandolin or Irish tuning. Asides from these, you can tune them using the GCEA tuning which is just like tenor ukulele, concert, soprano, and parallel octaves.
Plectrum guitar is also a four stringed guitar, but it is of 26 to 27″ (that is 66-69cm) scale length while the tuning is either DGBD or CGBD, or DGBE. The CGDA tuning is sort of unusable because it has a very high A string.
Types Of Guitars

Conclusively, guitars can have four strings, the set of guitars made in the old days were just this. Different brands upgraded theirs, but it’s no longer in use, except for the bass guitar which is a result of being a low-end backup to a music band.
